A National Symposium, Effective Supervision of Creative Arts Research Degrees (ESCARD) was a two day event held at QUT in Brisbane on the 7th, 8th February 2013 in conjunction with the OLT Project: Building distributed leadership for effective supervision of creative practice higher research degrees.
An open call for contributions, dialogue and feedback was made via Deans and Assistant Deans of Creative Arts and Design Schools across Australasia. 62 delegates from 20 Australasian Universities attended.
Held half way through the project timeline, it provided a point of dissemination for preliminary findings of the project, an opportunity to seek formative feedback on the project ideas as they were developing, and informed the project findings, outcomes, and recommendations.
The ESCARD Symposium captured a national collection of case studies and position papers, which are presented ,with permission), as
- abstracts collected into a program distributed to attendees at the symposium
- presentations, captured as PDFs and/or audio and video;
The symposium also provided an opportunity for dialogue–through open forums
- video-taped, facilitated conversations on the topics: ‘Quality of Practice’ and ‘A conversation about Writing’
